A Gentle Whack-a-Mole Made for Babies

Classic whack-a-mole is a carnival game about speed and force. Ours keeps the part babies love, the delightful surprise of a creature popping up, and quietly removes everything else. There is no hammer, no score to lose, and no timer counting down. Friendly moles peek out of their burrows one at a time, and when your little one taps a mole it gives a happy wiggle, a soft giggle, and ducks back down. That is the whole game, and for a baby discovering that their touch makes things happen, it is plenty.

Each tap teaches the same foundational lesson as our other sensory games: cause and effect. I reach out, I touch the mole, the mole reacts. Watching for the next mole to appear also builds visual tracking and anticipation, the early attention skills that later support reading and play. Because nothing on the board can be tapped by accident and there is no way to fail, even a six-month-old can join in on your lap.

Gentle and Normal Speed

Babies and toddlers move at very different paces, so the game has two speeds, both reachable from the hidden parent panel. On Gentle, the moles stay up longer and appear less often, giving a younger baby all the time they need to spot one and reach for it. On Normal, the moles are a little livelier, which suits toddlers who are ready to chase them around the board. You can switch between the two at any time without ending the session.

Safe by Design

The game runs fullscreen with the same safety locks as the rest of our games. Your baby cannot swipe away, press the home button, open another app, or land on an ad, because there are none. Parent controls are tucked behind a two-second hold on the top-left corner or a subtle Parent button, so curious fingers will not stumble into the settings. When you are ready to stop, open the panel and tap Exit to return here.

Best Used Together, in Short Bursts

Like all screen time for the youngest children, this game shines as something you share rather than hand over. Sit with your baby, point at the moles, and narrate the fun. "Here comes one. Can you tap it? There it goes." A few minutes is plenty. If your little one loves it, the keyboard smash game and the rest of our keyboard and sensory games for babies and toddlers work the same gentle way.

Frequently Asked Questions

What age is this whack-a-mole game for?

Whack-a-Mole works from about 6 months, when babies start tapping on purpose, through the toddler years. There is no timer and no way to lose, so even the youngest players just tap the friendly moles to make them giggle. Older toddlers enjoy chasing the moles as they pop up a little faster. Always play together and keep sessions short.

Is it too rough or scary for a baby?

No. Our version is deliberately gentle. There are no hammers, no bonking, and nothing breaks. The moles simply peek out of their burrows, and when your little one taps them they wiggle, giggle, and duck back down happy. It is a calm, friendly take on the classic whack-a-mole, designed for the warmest, most sensitive players.

How do I exit the game or change settings?

Parent controls are hidden from little fingers. To open them, press and hold the small dot in the top-left corner for 2 seconds, or tap the subtle 'Parent' button in the bottom-left corner. From the panel you can turn sound on or off, switch between Gentle and Normal speed, enable Reduce Motion, or exit back to this page.

Can I make the moles slower for my baby?

Yes. Open the parent panel and choose 'Gentle' speed. The moles stay up longer and appear less often, which gives babies and younger toddlers plenty of time to spot and tap them. 'Normal' speed is a little livelier for toddlers who want more of a challenge.

Does it work offline and is it free?

Whack-a-Mole is completely free, has no ads, and needs no signup. Once the page has loaded in your browser it keeps working without WiFi, so it is handy on flights, in the car, or in a waiting room. Everything runs on your device and nothing is sent anywhere.
